SBS in China team is survey paddy field in Chongming Island


Spoon-billed Sandpiper in China © is an organization which protects Spoon-billed Sandpiper and other waterbirds on the Yellow Sea mudflat, the most crucial staging sites  for migratory shorebirds along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway.  


SBS in China is affiliation team of China Coastal Water Bird Census Team © (CCWCT) for the monthly waterbird survey in Jiangsu coast, covering 6 key mudflats in three cities.


The tour is a fundraising tour for CCWCT and led by volunteer waterbird surveys with over 10 years experience.

Li Jing,leader of the NGO Spoon-billed Sandpiper in China, national coordinator for CCWCT since 2007




Zhang Lin, Shanghai’s leading birder and discoverer of Rudong as the most important stopover site for Spoon-billed Sandpiper,has been working as volunteer for CCWCT since 2005



Chen Tengyi, born and raised in Chongming Island, an accomplished bird-whistler. His remarkable whistling skills are passed down from generations of former hunters.

Han Yongxiang, a wildlife illustrator from Lianyungang. Yongxiang has been conducting waterbird surveys in Liangyungang since 2007. Though he’s not going to guide you during this trip, if you do decide to visit Lianyungang afterwards, Yongxiang is your No 1. choice for local guide.

Kiwi, young volunteer since 2013, has been helping awarness program for fishermen community as well as field work, including spoon-billed sandpiper banding team in 2016 and 2017; Kiwi is fighting Leukemia now.

Ziyou is a recent graduate from University of Queensland. She joined Spoon-billed Sandpiper in China in August last year. Although Ziyou is new to birdwatching in China, she has been birdwatching in countries such as Canada, Australia and Peru and enjoys talking about them.
